Alzheimers Disease And Diabetes

Alzheimer's disease and diabetes

There have been studies that will link diabetes patients to a higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. This data is a result of much research in this disease. It is found that people with Alzheimer's and diabetes had an increased rate of decline in all systems like working memory, speech and understanding special patterns.

Diabetes is linked to vascular complications that cause kidney, heart and circulation problems like arteriosclerosis, and stroke. The actual process that involves Alzheimer's disease to diabetes is still unclear. Researchers have found that people with diabetes had a 65% increase in developing Alzheimer's disease compared to non-diabetic patients.

They have also looked more closely at the mental decline by testing diabetics and non-diabetic on their memory and perception commonly affected by the aging process. These tests have shown that only speed of perception and being able to tell whether two things are the same or different have declined faster in diabetics than in healthy patients by nearly 44%.

It has been determined that Alzheimer's disease and diabetes will demand more and more research in the future. It is also said that diabetes along with other conditions like high blood pressure and cholesterol are risk factors for Alzheimer's disease.

There is much more work to be done and there are more insights to some of the processes that are important in the evolution of Alzheimer's disease. There is some evidence that is also available to suggest that poorly controlled diabetes also affects the functioning of the brain. This is another reason that researchers determine that Alzheimer's disease and diabetes have a common link and that people will have to be more careful when they are diagnosed with diabetes.

It is important for the patients that are diagnosed with diabetes to take care of their body and to eat right. They should make sure that they have it controlled and make sure that there are no complications that can result in further damage to the body. This will make the body more susceptible to getting Alzheimer's disease in the future.

These findings that most researchers are coming up with are not proven and it is important to not get worked up about them. Just because a person has diabetes does not necessarily mean that they are going to get Alzheimer's disease. These reports are used only to warn people ahead of time so that they take better care of their health.
